on A beautiful mess

A Sunny Afternoon process wall // smitten studioYesterday, on A Beautiful Mess, I shared a final home tour of our townhouse that we just sold. I’m still finding it hard to believe that we won’t be going back here again, but I’m looking forward to settling into our new place.

This is my favorite image of the bunch that I took while I was in the middle of creating the debut collection for A Sunny Afternoon. I already miss that chalkboard wall big time! Head over to A Beautiful Mess to see the rest.

Glitter Guide Style at Home

glitter guide sarah sherman samuel Did you guys get a chance to see my Style at Home feature over on Glitter Guide yesterday? I was so happy when they asked me to participate because I knew that we were moving soon and I thought it would be a great way to say goodbye to the house. Of course I have taken photos of our home myself but have never had anyone else shoot it. I loved seeing it through someone else’s eyes (especially that of the talented Jessie Webster). I also shared a bit about my background, some more on A Sunny Afternoon and Smitten Studio, and how they all overlap.

A Sunny Afternoon – Picnic

a sunny afternoon picnic // smitten studioa sunny afternoon picnic // smitten studioa sunny afternoon picnic basket // smitten studioa sunny afternoon picnic // smitten studioa sunny afternoon picnic basket // smitten studioa sunny afternoon picnic // smitten studio a sunny afternoon picnic basket // smitten studio a sunny afternoon picnic basket // smitten studioWe got our first bit of A Sunny Afternoon press yesterday over on 100 Layer Cake. Did you guys see? Here are a few additional photos from the picnic and there’s even more in the lookbook.

This was the real maiden voyage with our picnic basket and it turned out so great. We packed up our spread in the cabin, walked down to the then empty beach and found a perfect spot to spread out. We broke bread with Caroline & Jayden of Woodnote photography while they captured it all.

I have always loved everything about a picnic… they have a way of slowing things down, you get to enjoy the scenery, I’m pretty sure food just tastes better outside, it gives you an excuse to eat with your hands and no one cares if you fall asleep at the “table”.

Last year, I was shopping for a new picnic basket and I came up empty while looking for one that would match my style, so I set out to design one that would. I started developing a few prototypes and finally narrowed in on the one you see today. The leather handles against the dark stained wood, along with the black & white patterned interior lining are the modern updates (with a little fashion influence) to the traditional basket that I was looking for. I hope you love the basket as much as I do and find yourself making more excuses to enjoy the sunshine, pull up a blanket, and eat outside. :)

my print in Lonny Magazine

lonny-mag-june2013It is always fun to see your work out in the world being used and enjoyed. So I was excited to see my print hanging in the home of Anika & Ken Yael Natori while flipping through this month’s issue of Lonny magazine. I love how it is styled… hanging above those cute cacti vases and a flirty animal print-ish lamp. If you haven’t seen the entire feature, take a look here. There is so much pattern and color in each of their spaces, I was in heaven!

You can buy the print here.

Amanda on Glitter Guide

amanda dawbarn // glitter guideHave you guys seen the Glitter Guide feature on Amanda Dawbarn of 100 Layer Cake that went up this week? I had the pleasure of contributing with some of the styling which was easy peasy because Amanda has so many amazing pieces in her home. I had also been wanting to work with the photographer Jessie Webster for sometime, so it was a great surprise to find out she was going to be shooting it.

Amanda and I met last year and became fast friends. When answering “how do you sparkle?” in the interview she replies “by encouraging and inspiring others to find what they are meant to do”, and Lord knows that in just the last year, while swapping stories, doing some heavy crafting, and getting lost in parking garages together, she has done exactly that for me. So, go check out the entire Glitter Guide feature and get to know 1 of the 3 ladies behind 100 Layer Cake a little better.

Happy Friday!

instagram 2012 & glitter guide

instagram heart 2012 sarah sherman samuel
I woke up to such a lovely surprise this past wednesday. Glitter Guide had picked their Top 20 Instagram Accounts to follow and I was one of them! My phone was lighting up like a Christmas tree with all of the IG notifications. :)

It was great to see some of my favorite users selected as well like @bonnie, @sittinginatree, @amanda100lc, and @pennyweight and perfect to find a few new must follows like @alice_gao and @eatsleepwear.

Seeing the feature had me scrolling through my feed to remind myself what I have been documenting. What I love about instagram is that it holds all your captured moments in one place and at the end of the year you have a little pocket full of memories. So, I pulled out about 100 of my favorite instagrammed moments from the year to remind myself of what great things we got up to in 2012.

Thanks Glitter Guide!

My image in Glamour Magazine

stop smell the roses printsarah sherman samuel roses glamour magazineRemember when I shared this Stop and Smell the Roses post? Well, shortly after Alexandra from Glamour magazine contacted me to see if they could include my image in February’s issue. Of course I agreed and I finally got my hands on one today! It’s so fun to see it in print.

I also had a few inquiries about being able to purchase the print so I set up a Society 6 shop for anyone that would like to get a print or an iPhone case etc. Who doesn’t need a little reminder to slow things down a bit?
