It was high time to get out of the house and get in some relaxation time. Rupe surprised me with a weekend trip to Palm Springs to take a break from the busy whirlwind my days have become lately and to celebrate his almost finished recovery after surgery. We happily swam, read, ate, and relaxed the weekend away.
Let me just say house hunting in LA is never boring. We have been playing with the idea of selling our place to get a house with a yard bigger then our patch of fake grass we currently have. Although, the more we see of what is out there in our neighborhood the more things are looking like we might just stay put. I mean this sofa is lovely and all but how about those walls? The kicker with this property was that, every tiny room had different types of wood paneling, it was right off the 405, and the entire backyard was concrete. Now you know I am all for a fixer but this one was a little much.
What a month… here is a look at what I have been up to lately. A few of the highlights were getting to work on a couple photo shoots with some talented people and seriously awesome animals (I got to hang with Zebras and Alpaca!), working on and celebrating my dear friends wedding, and having Rupe recovered enough after surgery for our first meal out together.
It was a big weekend in the Samuel household. Four weeks after surgery, Rupert had his first trip out of the house. We finally got to share a meal together and in one of our favorite spots. I didn’t realize just how often we usually went out to eat until all of the sudden we couldn’t. Thank God we had some good friends that brought us meals those first few weeks.
When you go through anything that disrupts your usual schedule I think it makes you look at things a little differently. This time around it has me more thankful for things I’ve never given much thought to and has reminded me of what’s important.
It also made me realize that when I’m stressed I do very stupid things like when I stubbed my toe I thought it was a good idea to kick a chair in anger and ended up cutting my ankle as well, or like when I was leaving my house, I jumped in the car, turned it on, and slowly back into the still closed garage door. I think I have cursed more these past couple weeks then in my entire life combined. Please tell me that happens to someone else as well. I mean, not the cursing part but the absent minded happenings that come along when your head is so full you think it might pop.
This weekend one of my nearest and dearest got married. It’s the best thing being able to contribute to a friends wedding day… it just seems all the more special when you are designing for someone you love. You know how they say food tastes better when it is made with love? Well, in the same vein, I think my table runners, paper goods, and even the smilebooth props looked extra good that night. :). Congrats to Bea & John.
We headed back down to orange county on Friday for Rupe’s first post-op check up since being released from the hospital and was happy to hear the doctor say everything is looking great and healing right on track. I was however a little less happy when we misplaced the car in the parking garage. oops! With Rupe getting along a little better everyday things are slowly starting to get back to normal and I was also excited to be able to get some work done, planning an upcoming shoot with Urbanic.
Rupert had to go into the hospital for surgery last thursday. It was a scheduled surgery that has been looming over his head for some time so at least that part is over. He is now on the road to recovery and is looking good but at this point is still in the hospital so, I spent my weekend taking care of him while he is on strict bed rest, hunting down healthy non-hospital food, and trying to act as a nurse the best I can. (even though I am as squeamish as you get with these kinds of things!) If all goes well we are hoping to get busted out of here today!
Thanks to everyone for your support and prayers.
Here’s a look at what I’ve been up to lately via instagram. We left New Zealand, celebrated Rupe’s birthday, hosted the Fancy Paws charity event, had house guests two of the four weekends, flew to Chicago, worked on the cabin, made some goods in the workshop, and had Easter with my parents. I’d say it was a pretty eventful month. Any of you figure out how to slow down time yet?
