from the weekend: spring blooms

spring blooms // sarah sherman samuel“When I heard that there were artists, I wished I could some time be one. If I could only make a rose bloom on paper, I thought I should be happy! Or if I could at last succeed in drawing the outline of winter-stripped boughs as I saw them against the sky, it seemed to me that I should be willing to spend years in trying.”
-Lucy Larcom

Last week was a pretty hectic week that ended up spilling right over into the weekend. On the plus side, I’m working on some exciting new things with A Sunny Afternoon and for the blog, and I can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel of our renovation. We did sneak outside a few times to enjoy a break in the day and noticed that Spring is in full bloom around our LA neighborhood.

Hope you spent some time doing something you love. x

from the weekend: L.A. loving

04.07.14-weekendI realized this weekend that we will have lived in LA for seven years now, this month! It took us a while to settle in but lately it just feels like it keeps getting better. I guess I made it past the seven year itch. :) We spent Saturday and Sunday jumping around town running errands but had so much fun furniture shopping, picking out fabric for some projects at home, while exploring parts of the city I rarely get to. We had a brunch at Sqirl that is always well worth the wait, picked up some sweet treats at Bottega Louie, and dinner at a favorite, Salt Air.

Hope you had a happy weekend.

from the weekend: the good, the bad, and the really ugly

03.23.14-weekendThe good: Saturday we drove downtown to check out the Parachute Market, a beautifully curated design fair and then stopped by the equally beautiful Ace on the way back for a little snack.

The bad: On the drive home I started not feeling so well.

The really ugly: We arrived home to a freshly varnished hallway which I immediately had to put my personal stamp (ie footprints) in, while running to the bathroom where I became violently ill and stayed for the remainder of the night. (tmi? probably).

I should also note that it was NOT the Ace’s food that poisoned my system. I am pretty sure a late night taco truck run the evening before was the culprit. Ew. I hope your weekend was better then mine!

from the weekend: rupe’s 40th!

happy-birthdayThis weekend we celebrated Rupe’s BIG birthday in Miami Beach with a bunch of old friends, in the town where our love story started. His friends flew in from LA, London, Chicago, New York, Nicaragua (!), the Bahamas, and a few from just down the street in Miami Beach. You know the saying to know “so and so” is to love “so and so” well, in Rupert’s case it is to meet Rupert is to love him. He is the most likable, genuine, charming, and compassionate person I have ever met. He can find the good in, and make a friend out of, anyone.

You just can’t not like Rupert and that was extra evident this weekend as we all swapped Rupe stories, and honored him in true South Beach style with a beach day meet up, poolside cocktail party, dance club after party and a bleary eyed brunch the day after. 11:30am came a lot earlier then I anticipated with the time change and a 5 AM end to the previous night (WAYYY past my bedtime and making us all feel extra old).

It was a happy birthday to my much better half, Rupert Samuel (aka RupeDog, aka Rooty Toot).

from the weekend: oscars and oh joy brunch

oh joy for target // brunch // sarah sherman samuelThis weekend I celebrated the upcoming launch of Oh Joy’s collaboration with Target at a brunch with creative friends and inspiring women, like Joy herself. The line is just as adorable as you think it would be (I call dibs on the bud vases! :)), and it launches march 16th! On Sunday Rupe and I did a major re-organization and cleaning marathon of the house, and since we both were completely out of clean clothes, towels, and underwear… we watched most of the Oscar’s at the laundromat!

Happy Monday!

from the weekend: modernism week, palm springs

MODERNISM WEEK-ENDI was thrilled when I was asked to be a part of the #psmodsquad covering Modernism Week. A weekend in Palm Springs packed full of home tours, exhibitions, and cocktail parties all centered around midcentury architecture and design… YES, PLEASE!

Racquet club garden villas tour // racquet club Modernism week is happening right now and this weekend Rupe and I headed back to the desert to partake in the mid-century loving festivities. To see more of my instagrams from our trip check them out here.
