LA weekend with Bugaboo

gjusta // los angeles // sarah sherman samuelThis weekend my eldest sister was visiting from Florida, so we played tourist in our own town and Bugaboo invited me to share my top spots in a mini family friendly city guide, so here we go…

To Eat: my favorite pick has been Gjusta, it’s a bakery/deli/cafe by the same folks as Gjelina, so the food is incredible. You order at the counter and find a bench or milk crate outside to sit on, which isn’t the comfiest of seating arrangements, but it is that casual picnic atmosphere that makes it great to bring the whole fam.

gjusta // los angeles // sarah sherman samuelArcher has been bopping around in the Bugaboo Bee, which we love for the compact design and the bassinet option. The bassinet is so perfect for a newborn to be able to nap in comfortably, while we scoot around town.

bugabooTo Stay: Have you guys heard of the site Kid & Coe? It is a beautifully edited home rental site that is dedicated to family friendly rentals and holy moly do they have some awesome ones. This place was just on the other side of town and was filled with beautiful art, toys and games for the kiddos, and even an indoor swing!kid & coe // superbaTo Do: Picnic! For some reason I equate family friendly with the outdoors. Maybe it is because a crying baby is a lot less noisy outside or because when I was a kid I wanted to be outside 24/7 but either way a picnic in the park is still one of my favorite pastimes. Head up to Will Rogers State Park and watch a polo game on some Sundays, hike the trails, and end with a picnic on the gorgeous green lawn.

Another incentive is that you can get lunch at Playa Provisions. They have a full restaurant, an ice cream parlor, a counter where you can order food to go or eat on a picnic table on the patio, and even a whiskey bar hidden away in the back (that part not so kid friendly but hey, the parents need a little break sometimes too right? ;).

weekend scenes memorial day

monday-archer-rugSomehow, even days that you do nothing at all seem to fly by in a flash. We spent the weekend not doing a whole lot and I have to say it was our best one yet, with little A. We stared at, sang to, and giggled with Archer…had a few friends over, started working on the laundry room, and had a picnic in the park.

exterior house, patio // sarah sherman samuelpark-evening-picnicI also realized I never did share our finished deck. We still have to figure out the furniture situation but there’s a glimpse of it… looking forward to spending a lot more time out there this summer.

Hope you guys had a beautiful long weekend. xo

Palm Springs Weekend Scenes

ace-hotel-sarahshermansamuelOur first getaway with the little man was a success! We stayed at the Ace and despite the bumping party music, Archer slept like a champ. Rupert and I, however, barely slept at all and couldn’t stop obsessing over his temperature in the night. Was he too hot? was he too cold? is he cooing in his sleep or is he awake? etc. etc. Meanwhile he was clueless and slept through the night with no problems. Rupe and I are still working on the whole relaxing into parenting thing.

palm-springs-sarahshermansamuelparker-palmsprings-sarahshermansamuelWe spent an afternoon at The Parker having brunch at Norma’s and walking around the beautiful grounds (Archie had nap time in the lounge area)…

weekend scenes with Ergo Baby

ergo3bMy mama world just expanded all over again with my new found love of baby wearing. I’m not sure why I hadn’t gotten around to it before now, well actually I do know and it involves a bumpy recovery for me including catheters, infections, and other scary things that I have already started to block out of my memory, which prevented me from a lot of things at the beginning. Thankfully we are sailing along much more smoothly now and it helps that Archer just about makes our hearts explode out of his adorableness on a daily basis.

Seeing as I can not get enough of the peanut’s cuddles, I was pretty excited when Ergo Baby sent me over one of their wraps to try out. Now I am loving our neighborhood strolls, walks to the market, and being able to work with little A snuggled right up to me. I’m officially a baby wearing, hands free carrying, mobile mummy and a happy ball of mush. <3

ergo2bergo5bergo-1bOn a side note, can I just talk about how huge my little guy is already getting?! I can’t believe he was in my belly just 8 weeks ago. At this rate he will pass me up in size before too long, but not to worry, I’ve decided I am just going to wrap him up in this until his feet are dragging on the ground… don’t judge ;).

scenes from the weekend

beach-baby-sarahshermansamuelsanta-monica-beach2This weekend was full of big milestones for me on the motherhood journey. My sister came to visit with her husband and two young kids from Wyoming and they were not about to stick around the house all day, so I quickly had to learn how to breastfeed on the fly and in public (gasp! ;)), something I wasn’t really looking forward to. It already sounds silly now, but I couldn’t imagine how I would ever be able to do it without my perfect little nursing station, my pillows set up just right etc, but there I was on the beach, nursing like a champ. ha!

And just like that, it opened up a whole new chapter. We were able to spend the day at the beach, get a delicious lunch at Playa Provisions, and spend a full day away from the house. The rest of the weekend was filled with more beach time, playing games on the santa monica pier, backyard picnics, dining out, and Archer’s first party! It was some good quality time with my sister and little A’s adorable cousins. More photos from the weekend after the jump…

from the weekend: sunday walks

from-the-weekend-playa-del-reyThis weekend we took our little down to Playa Del Rey and on our favorite walk along the channel and around the lagoon. We are starting to realize just how exciting it is to share our world with this new life. Everything we do now is “Archer’s first trip to the beach“, “Archer’s first shopping excursion“, or “Archer’s first Sunday nap while the Master’s is on TV” (I take my best naps when Rupe is watching golf. ha). I can only imagine how it will just get better as he gets older and is able to enjoy, interact, and remember all these firsts himself too.

I hope you had a nice weekend and maybe tried something new yourself! x sarah

from the weekend: day dates and archer’s first day out

mama's first day out // distressed denim & black pumps // sarah sherman samuelIt may have taken me 5 weeks but I did it… this weekend I finally got out of the house, and twice!

On Friday my doula dropped by to watch Archer for a bit so Rupert and I could have our first day date since baby and a little time with just the two of us. We had a long lunch at our favorite local spot and hit up a couple shops before running back to feed the little guy.  The next day we ventured out again and this time with baby in tow, to another fave spot by the same folks.

Overall, it was a huge success and much needed outings for me. Every little milestone like these are helping to build my mama confidence. The rest of the weekend we spent around the house, working on our our feeding, cuddling, walking around the hood, sleeping, and then feeding again cycle.

from the weekend: waiting for baby

02.22.15 instagram weekendSo turns out we did have one more weekend as a family of just two. We are still waiting on baby Samuel, and trying to distract ourselves with pretty heels, delicious meals, and the Oscar’s :) Also, a lot of walking, yoga, acupuncture, spicy foods, etc. etc. I’m trying my best to be patient and putting my trust in the fact that he will come when he’s supposed to. Same story, different mother right? Hope you have a great week. xo
