from the weekend: anniversary road trip

antelope canyon // smitten studioLast week Rupe and I celebrated our 5 year wedding anniversary. If you remember from last year, we take turns planning a trip for the occasion and this year was my turn.

Growing up my family did a lot of traveling around the states and I love that I get to show my English husband all the favorite spots that I can remember from when I was just a young one. One of those favorite spots was Lake Powell in Utah, and that was my main jumping off point for planning a 5 night road-trip. I’ll put together a full post on the route we took, the places we stayed and the things we did, but I wanted to share one of the most magical spots from our journey (pictured above), Antelope Canyon.

from the weekend: working with friends

08.18.14weekendThis weekend I had a busy work schedule with a fun project I am working on for Gap, but I was able to enlist the help of my friends making it seem much less like work and a lot more like a party (the best kind of work day). I can’t wait to share what we got up to! After we wrapped for the day we finished off the weekend with dinner and drinks and then back home to catch the last of shark week.  Hope you had a great weekend. x

from the weekend: pink sky california

pink sky california // smitten studioThis weekend we tinkered around the house some more, had a date night at our local sushi place, and finished it off with our favorite hike around Will Rogers State Park. It was cloudy most of the time but that made for a pretty beautiful rosy sky Sunday evening. Who needs silver linings when you can have pink!? ;)

from the weekend: michigan to la

cabin-weekendThis weekend we said sayonara to the cabin for a little while and headed back to LA, but not before sitting on the beach through one of the most amazing sunsets I’ve seen yet, and savoring every last minute in our little place of refuge. No cell signal and no wifi meant a forced unplugging but I have to say for the most part it was pretty great. A true getaway. Hope you had a lovely weekend. x sarah

from the weekend: cabin time

lake-michigan-cabinWe made it over to the cabin this weekend and had my sister and her family (2 kids and husband), and my parents over for a day at the lake, BBQ and all. My sister lives in Wyoming so it was a real treat to have her and my adorable niece and nephew there. Living far from family isn’t always the easiest but it definitely makes it extra sweet when you can gather a few together. Hope you had a great weekend.

from the weekend: home time & hikes

06.30.14-weekendWe’ve been go going a lot this month and were in much need of a weekend at home, doing nothing. Cracker spent the majority of it curled up in her favorite spot on the patio and Rupe and I were either parked next to her or inside watching the world cup (how about those Dutch?!). Our one venture out of the house landed us on our favorite hike at Will Rogers State Park.  I hope you are feeling recharged after your weekend!

from the weekend: backyard dinner party

peonies // sarah sherman samuelWe flew back from England Saturday, arriving home in LA in the evening just in time to climb our jet lagged arses into bed and then wake up the next day to throw together a dinner party! (as a totally sane person does ;). I had already agreed to host the LA dinner party, with Anna Watson Carl for her cookbook road trip/tour, before our unexpected trip to the UK and there was no way I was going to give up a chance to have her to come and cook at my house. So, Sunday morning I went to the Santa Monica farmers market and found these gorgeous peonies, set up a table in the backyard, and welcomed some friends over for what turned into a really lovely evening.

Anna has been traveling the country since June 1st stopping in various cities and co-hosting dinners like this one to promote her cookbook project. She has collaborated with some hugely talented folks to create a beautiful cookbook and has a kickstarter going to raise money to self-publish!  To read more about the project check out her kickstarter!
