from the weekend: waiting for baby

02.22.15 instagram weekendSo turns out we did have one more weekend as a family of just two. We are still waiting on baby Samuel, and trying to distract ourselves with pretty heels, delicious meals, and the Oscar’s :) Also, a lot of walking, yoga, acupuncture, spicy foods, etc. etc. I’m trying my best to be patient and putting my trust in the fact that he will come when he’s supposed to. Same story, different mother right? Hope you have a great week. xo

from the weekend: appreciating the small things

flowers // simple pleasures // sarah sherman samuelWith our new addition coming right around the corner (like due this week!), I was thankful for the holiday weekend and an extra day with Rupe at home. We spent our days doing a few of our favorite simple weekend activities that we know we won’t be able to get a chance to for a while with a new little one.

We had a lingering brunch at our favorite local (Gjelina), we meandered around Abbot Kinney doing some shopping (I can’t even remember the last time we went clothes shopping just for fun), we made and hung some shelves in the nursery (which probably isn’t an appealing activity to everyone, but I LOVE it and working on a project together is one of my absolute most cherished things) and finally we took long walks around the neighborhood noticing all the gorgeous new flowers popping up and of course binge watched some Bachelor. ;)

As possibly our last weekend as just the two of us, it may not sound like the most thrilling days, but with such a huge adventure to be thankful for on the horizon it felt important to stop and recognize all life’s simple pleasures too. Hope you had a weekend full of tiny victories and lots of love. xo

from the weekend: the waiting game

venice beach pierOur hospital bag is packed, car seat is in the car, and we’ve made most of the necessary preparations for baby samuel’s arrival… and now we wait. At 38+ weeks I could still be waiting for a few weeks and maybe that will give me some time to finish the nursery, (will be sharing the plans in there this week!) and maybe it won’t, but I am totally ok with that. I hope you guys haven’t given up on me sharing the nursery design. ha! The bathroom project kind of took over but I promise it will be something good. For now, you will find me taking long walks (like this refueling one by the sea), eating spicy food, and sipping raspberry leaf tea, because nursery ready or not, I’m ready to have this little guy on the outside. :)

Hope you had a great weekend. Did any of you veg out and watch the Grammys? I only made it halfway through, so I can’t say it was all that exciting, apart from Pharrell maybe, but have the rest DVR’d.

x sarah

from the weekend: nursery beginnings

nursery items // sneak peek // sarah sherman samuelThis weekend our crib got delivered and, holy crap, things started to feel really real. I started gathering the few special pieces that I have picked up here and there for the nursery and finally got a chance to work on the design (woot woot!). I will share the plan in a few, but for now here is a sneak peek of some of the pieces and the color palette I am planning to work with. Baby Samuel is due exactly 1 month from today. Ah!

from the weekend: showers, house guests, maternity shoots, renovations… oh my!

01.04.15weekend2015 has officially started off with a BIG bang in all the best ways. Over the weekend I worked with photographers Katherine and Luke of Max and Friends to document this mama to be time in my life and they couldn’t have been sweeter or more talented to work with. I’ve only gotten a little sneak peek from the shoot but am SO looking forward to seeing the rest.

I went straight from the shoot to the airport to pick up one of two old friends who both flew in to celebrate our little one on the way at a shower that was thrown for me and baby Samuel on Sunday. It was such a special gathering of incredible (and crazily talented) women that I feel so fortunate to call my friends, I mean check out that dessert table!! (CAN NOT wait to see and share the photos from that too!)

We also stretched the weekend into Monday (because who wants to go back to work after a long break on a Monday anyway) and the Bachelor Premier should of course be considered a holiday, am I right? Kidding of course, kind of, but mostly because we also started a full gut job renovation on the original bathroom, the only room that hadn’t been touched yet. I am cutting it a little close to the ole due date but man when that nesting bug hits in the third trimester, it is NO joke. :)

And finally, last but not least, there has been one more major change in the Samuel household… Rupert made a big career change, leaving his company that he founded in 2007, and later sold, to take a position at CP + B, where his ad career began in the very first place, way back when (you can read a bit about him here and another blurb in the NY Times. #proudwife ;)). After having the month of December off from any work,  his first day was today! I will surely cherish all the extra time we had with just the two of us around the house and now look forward to the big adventure of parenthood!

I hope you had a great start to the year. x sarah

from the weekend: 32 week bump

32 weeks // dressing the bump // smitten studioI hope you all had a great Christmas. Rupert and I spent ours hunkered down with just the 2 (.5) of us and the dogs. It was the first time we didn’t travel to see family and I definitely missed them and the snow, but it was also really special knowing that it will be the quietest Christmas we will most likely ever have and this time next year a mini Rupe will be scooting around the tree.

Los Angeles is also a lot quieter in general, between Christmas and New Years, and I’ve enjoyed taking many a trips to get the best decaf latte in all the land without a line! Above we were on such a coffee run in celebration of hitting 32 weeks!

from the weekend: baby showers, beautiful kitchens, and holiday fun

casa shelter half kitchen // smitten studiobaby-showerThis week started off with a bang so excuse my weekend post on a Tuesday night! I am still recovering from the festivities and I’m noticing you don’t bounce back as quick at 31 weeks pregnant. Sunday started and ended with a party and we had gatherings in between, keeping me up well past my recent granny bedtime of 8:30. The first was a friends baby shower (which took place at casa shelter half, and I couldn’t not snap a pic of the gorgeous kitchen (above) designed by Heather Heron).  After, Rupe picked me up for our first birthing class (holy moly what am I getting into), from there we met friends for a hot cocoa happy hour and walked to the Venice canals holiday boat parade (think homemade floats, lit up kayaks, and rowing carolers all dressed like Santa) and finally, we all ended up back at my house for pizza which somehow turned into a late night ear candle party. You know, your typical holiday activities. :)

Hope you are having a good week. x

from the weekend: babymoon

spa day 29weeksIt may be Monday morning but in my head I am still floating the day away in Ojai. We had a wonderfully relaxing babymoon at the Ojai Valley Inn this weekend. I’ll have more on the trip soon!

Hope you all have a great week. x

from the weekend: thanksgiving

thanksgiving weekendI hope you all had a really great extra long Thanksgiving weekend. We spent turkey day with just a few friends this year, Amanda of 100 layer cake obviously knows how to put together a table (and cook a turkey for that matter. :)). It was a day filled with thanks, football, yummy eats, and lingering at the table for hours with good conversation. Everything Thanksgiving should be cracked up to be. Oh how I love the holidays and am not afraid to be a total nerd about it.

The rest of the weekend Rupe and I laid pretty low enjoying the quiet time with just the two of us before baby’s February arrival. We dug a few christmas decorations out, did a little shopping small on saturday, brunched, got a mani & pedi, and then traded in my Mini Cooper for a more mommy sized car (I may have cried when I had to turn in the keys. Stupid but true… I realllly liked that car. ha).

How did you guys spend your holiday?
